Faux, bonded, PU, and leatherette sofas fail differently from real leather - the polyurethane topcoat delaminates from a fabric backing in sheets. We are honest about which cases are recoverable and which are not, and we charge fairly when we know we can help. No false promises and no overpriced patch jobs.

when that glue fails, the sofa peels in sheets. Our job is to tell you - honestly - whether the substrate can hold a re-skin or whether reupholstery is genuinely the right answer.

Bonded leather is approximately 17 percent leather fibres compressed onto a fabric backing and topped with a polyurethane finish. PU faux leather (also sold as leatherette, vegan leather, art leather, rexine) is 100 percent synthetic - a polyurethane or PVC topcoat over a polyester or cotton scrim. Both fail the same way: the topcoat lifts, cracks, and peels off in flakes after 2 to 5 years. The fabric backing is exposed, and the sofa starts shedding pieces of itself onto the floor.
Real leather can be filled, sealed, and re-pigmented. Bonded and PU faux cannot - the failure is at the layer interface, not in the surface. What we CAN do: PU re-skin (apply a new polyurethane topcoat on a stripped, primed substrate) where the fabric backing is still intact, edge sealing where lifting is local, and pigment refresh where colour fading is the only issue. What we WILL NOT do: pretend a sheet-peeling sofa is restorable when reupholstery in real leather is the right honest answer. We tell you the truth at the free diagnosis, and you walk out with a clear decision either way.
Bonded and PU faux sofas are the most over-promised category in the leather repair market. Most repair shops will sell you a job that lasts 6 months. We tell you what is real - then deliver only what we can actually stand behind.
We identify whether the sofa is bonded leather (Leatherex, Leather Match), PU faux (Rexine, Vegan, Art Leather), PVC vinyl, or split leather - each fails differently and has a different repair window.
When the fabric backing is intact and only the topcoat has failed, we strip, prime, and apply a fresh polyurethane skin in the original colour. Looks new, but expect 2-3 years of life - not the 8+ years a real leather repair gives.
Where lifting is restricted to seam edges or armrest borders, we apply a contact adhesive and a flexible edge sealer. Quick, affordable, and stops the lift from spreading - typically buys 18-24 months more service.
Where the topcoat is intact but the pigment has faded, we colour-refresh with a PU-compatible pigment system. Common on bonded leather sofas in sun-exposed positions.
When the substrate is past saving (sheet-peeling, exposed fabric backing across more than 30 percent of the panel), we say so and recommend reupholstery in real leather. We dont sell jobs we cant stand behind.
No obligation. We come home, identify the substrate, grade the failure, and tell you exactly what is and isnt possible. Repair quote or honest reupholstery referral - either way you leave with clarity.
Tyson, our lead artisan, decides repair vs. reupholstery within 90 seconds of looking at the substrate. The honest verdict is the cheapest verdict in the long run.
Photographed in studio · IndiaDiagnose first, scope honestly, repair only what holds, and stand behind it.
Identify the substrate - bonded, PU, PVC, or split. Map lifting zones, exposed-backing percentage, and seam edge integrity. Determine repair window or refer to reupholstery.
Where repair is the right call, strip the failed topcoat with a leather-safe stripper. Edge-feather the boundary so the new layer steps cleanly into the surrounding panel. Apply PU adhesion primer.
Apply 2-4 micro-coats of a flexible polyurethane top in the original colour. For local lifting, contact-adhesive plus a flexible edge sealer. Hand-feathered into the surrounding finish.
24-hour controlled cure. We brief you honestly: expect 2-3 years from a re-skin, 18-24 months from edge-seal. We never promise more than the substrate can deliver.
We price faux/bonded repair fairly and tell you exactly how long the result will last. If reupholstery in real leather is the better long-run answer, we will say so at the free diagnosis - even if it loses us the job.

"Bought a bonded leather sectional in 2019, it started peeling in sheets in 2023. Tyson came home, looked at it for two minutes, and told me reupholstery was the honest answer - the backing was shredded across 4 panels. He could have sold me a doomed re-skin job. He didnt. We reupholstered in real leather instead. Best service experience I have had with any furniture vendor in India."
"PU recliner with armrest peeling. They edge-sealed it for 3,500 rupees and told me to expect 18 months of service before the next round. 14 months later, still holding strong, and they even offered a discount on the re-seal. Honest pricing, honest timing."
"Faux leather Durian sofa, just colour-faded - they did a pigment refresh, no re-skin needed. Three thousand rupees and the sofa looks fresh again. Most companies would have upsold me a full job."
