The Strips sofa, designed by Cini Boeri in 1972 and awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, is built as independent foam-block modules. Each module compresses at a different rate depending on use frequency - the centre modules under daily seating compress fastest, outer modules stay near-original. By year twelve the sofa profile becomes visibly uneven. Owners often describe it as "one end is lower." This is a module-specific foam problem, not a frame or spring issue. Comparable foam assessment applies on full-grain leather sofas where hide elasticity affects compression perception.

The Park sofa by Carlo Colombo has a sharply angular armrest geometry. Contact concentrates at the leading edge of the armrest lip on every seated position, thinning the semi-aniline leather at that precise line. By year seven to twelve the leather at the edge reads lighter - almost raw - while adjacent panels are perfect. Surface pigment recoats crack within ninety days on semi-aniline. Marco Zanuso's 1951 Lady chair (Compasso d'Oro 1954) is the piece that made Arflex historic - the first elastic foam seating in Italian design. Pre-1990 Lady chairs in India carry leather that is genuinely irreplaceable. Deterioration presents as surface powdering, micro-cracking, or rigidity. Chemical stripping is never appropriate. The only correct repair is aniline dye applied in a feather-blend across the worn zone, allowed to penetrate, then buffed. The leather hand is preserved. The colour reads continuous. Both Park and Saari use semi-aniline leather on primary surfaces. Semi-aniline has a thin pigment coat over aniline-dyed leather - colour depth with light protection. It is susceptible to colour drift over seven to twelve years, particularly at the Park armrest leading edge. We restore with aniline dye feather-blend, no topcoat.
