A recolour that comes out patchy, leaving the soft semi-aniline finish looking sprayed and lifeless, is exactly what owners dread. Because B&B Italia favours a lightly sealed leather, we read your Charles, Tufty-Time, Papilio, Husk or Maxalto panel by panel and match the exact grain and named colour before we start - easing cracked armrests, sunken tufts and faded panels back without flattening the finish. From ₹4,500 a seat. Send two photos on WhatsApp and a written quote reaches you within 30 minutes.
Real Charles, Tufty-Time, and Papilio jobs from homes across India. Drag the slider to compare - same sofa, same leather, before and after.
A few problems come up again and again on these sofas - cracked armrests on the Charles, sunken tufts on the Tufty-Time, and faded colour on the Papilio. Here are the three we fix most often, and what each one really takes to put right.
Citterio drew the Charles with a slim, architectural armrest, so the leather sits drum-tight over a hard square edge with no slack to give. Years of leaning plus the dry-then-humid swing of Indian seasons fatigue the topcoat (the thin sealed colour layer on top of the hide) and fine cracks open along the seam. A smear of filler over the top just sinks back in a few months. We pack the crack from the base, cure it flat, then re-lay the colour so the panel reads as one surface again.
The Tufty-Time is a modular field of soft foam-core seats pulled down by deep buttons. After 5 to 8 years the foam beneath a tuft loses its rebound, the seat dips, and the leather radiates creases out from the button. The hide itself is usually sound - it is the core under it that has gone. Re-skinning the panel solves nothing; unless the foam insert is rebuilt, the same tuft sinks straight back.
The Papilio's wide, curved shell turns its whole back panel toward the room's light. Park it by a window and the sun-facing half loses pigment first, so one section reads noticeably paler than its twin. The contrast stitching usually dulls to grey on the same timeline. Both are recoverable - we rebuild colour on the faded section to meet the protected side, lift the stitching back to tone, and lay a UV-block coat to slow the next round of fade.
A 2014 Charles 3-seater that came in with both armrests split along the seam. We rebuilt the cracks from the base and laid the colour back to its original Caviar - read against the panel with a meter so the match is exact. One day, in the owner's drawing room.

Different B&B Italia and Maxalto models use different leather - some have a pigment topcoat (a thin colour layer over the surface), some are aniline (dyed right through, no topcoat). The two need different products, so we work out which one yours is first.

A large share of those were B&B Italia and Maxalto - Charles, Michel, Ray, Husk, Tufty-Time, Lutetia. Every job is logged with its fault and its fix, so by the time we reach your piece we usually recognise the failure point before the kit is even open.

"Our 2016 B&B Italia Charles had a long crack along the armrest. A showroom quoted 4.2 lakh for a new one. They repaired and recoloured it in a day - nobody can tell it was ever damaged. Saved us lakhs on a sofa we love."
"The Tufty-Time had four sunken tufts and the leather was creasing badly around them. They put fresh foam under the tufts and sorted the leather - it looks exactly as it did when we bought it in 2018. The buttoning sits crisp again."
"I was nervous about anyone touching a Maxalto piece - the leather is soft and delicate. They sent a written plan before they started and the colour match on my Ray sofa is perfect. They clearly knew exactly what they were handling."
B&B Italia leather ships in named shades - Caviar, Pebble, Tobacco, Sand. We meter the exact value off the protected grain before we start and again at the finish, so the re-coloured section drops into the rest of the panel tightly enough that the eye slides right past the join.
