Afraid a repairer can't tell which Chateau d’Ax you own and applies the wrong fix? Fair worry - the name hides two grades. Lecomte and Anastasia are full-grain Italian hide that ages slowly; Aspen and Calia are a coated, bonded leather that peels and flakes. They fail differently, so we feel which grade you have first, then sort peeling, sun-fade, recliner faults and sagging cushions to match. Work starts at ₹4,500 a seat. The owner had written it off. A decade of afternoon sun had drained the ivory pale right across the cushion fronts - the classic fade you get on full-grain hide that carries only a thin colour coat. We re-pigmented the leather (drove fresh colour back into the grain rather than painting over it), locked it under a UV-blocking topcoat and fed it with conditioner. Today it sits the exact tone it wore the week it was delivered.
During a Chateau d’Ax visit · IndiaChateau d’Ax sells two kinds of leather. The good Italian leather on Lecomte and Anastasia ages slowly and just needs colour brought back. The cheaper coated leather on Aspen and Calia peels in a predictable way. The two need different fixes, so the first thing we do is check which one you have. Here are the three problems we see most.
The cheaper Aspen and Calia lines aren't full leather - they're a thin plastic coating over a backing, and in India's damp weather that coating starts lifting around year four to six. It usually flakes first along the front edge of the seat, then spreads. A lot of owners think it's real leather peeling and rub in conditioner, which only makes it lift faster. So the first thing to know is whether yours is the coated type or real hide - that changes everything about the fix.
The good lines, Lecomte and Anastasia, use real Italian leather with only a light colour coat on top - which is what gives them that soft look, but also means the sun fades them. After a few years near a window the colour shifts: ivory goes yellowish, brown goes grey. Painting fresh colour on the surface looks fine for a couple of months, then cracks and lifts. The colour has to be put back into the leather, not just laid on top, so it lasts.
The Borsalino and Sirio use a natural-finish Italian leather with very little coating on top. It looks and feels lovely, but it marks easily - pet claws, a watch buckle, a wet glass left on the arm. Because there's so little finish, a scratch goes straight through and the paler leather underneath shows. The good news is these are surface marks, so they fill and colour back in cleanly.
The whole job hinges on which Chateau d’Ax line you own. After 12 years and hundreds of these sofas, we can tell a real-leather Lecomte from a coated Aspen by feel alone - and that one call decides whether your sofa gets recoloured or re-skinned. We never quote until we're sure.

During a Chateau d’Ax visit · India"Our Chateau Dax Lecomte sectional sits by big windows and the ivory had gone pale on that side. They matched the colour, worked it back into the leather and sealed it - all in one afternoon. It looks like the day we bought it, and the colour hasn't shifted since."
"Our Chateau Dax Aspen had started flaking badly on the seats after about six years. They were honest that it's the coated kind, not full leather, but they stripped it, resealed it and recoloured it the same day at home. Saved me buying a whole new sofa."
"Our Chateau Dax Anastasia recliner stopped opening after five years. I assumed the motor was gone but they found a worn switch, replaced it and freed up the frame. On time, tidy, and they left the room exactly as they found it."
