Most office chair failures are pneumatic, not structural. A leaking gas-lift cylinder, a sticky tilt knob, or a loose star-base caster ends a chair before the leather ever does. We service the mechanism so the seating posture comes back.

Executive leather chairs fail in a predictable order: the gas-lift cylinder leaks first (the chair sinks under load), the tilt-tension knob seizes second, the arm-pads crack third, and the headrest hide is the last to go. We diagnose and treat the chair as a sequence - never replacing more than the failure actually requires.

Our service kit covers Class 3 and Class 4 SGS-rated gas cylinders, replacement nylon-glass swivel mechanisms, polyurethane casters in 50mm and 60mm, and the full leather restoration line - flexible Italian fillers, pigment matching, bonded thread re-stitch, and UV-stable topcoat sealers. Gas-Lift Cylinder Replacement

Class 3 and Class 4 SGS-rated pneumatic cylinders with stroke heights from 80mm to 240mm. Replaced with a slide-hammer puller - 15 minutes, the chair holds height again.

Tilt Mechanism Service

Synchro-tilt and knee-tilt mechanisms get fully stripped, lubricated with PTFE grease, and re-tensioned. We replace seized tilt knobs and broken paddle levers from our spares stock.

Star-Base & Caster Repair

Cracked nylon star-bases swapped for aluminium upgrades. Worn polyurethane casters replaced with hardwood-floor-safe wheels in 50mm or 60mm to suit your floor type.

Arm-Pad Re-Pad & Re-Skin

Cracked polyurethane arm-pads are stripped and re-skinned in matching leather, or replaced wholesale with PU pads from our inventory. The chair feels new under the elbow again.

Headrest & Backrest Hide Repair

Flexible Italian fillers and airbrush pigment blending on cracked headrests, lumbar zones, and seat panels. We finish with a UV-stable topcoat so office sun exposure does not re-fade the repair.

Slide-hammer the failed gas cylinder out, install the matched-stroke replacement. Lubricate the tilt mechanism, replace casters, swap or upgrade the star-base where needed.

My chair sinks under load - is it a leather problem?

No, almost never. A chair that drops under your weight has a failed gas-lift cylinder seal - oil and gas have escaped the pneumatic chamber. We replace the cylinder with a Class 3 or Class 4 SGS-rated unit in 15 minutes. The leather is unrelated.

Can the gas cylinder be repaired or only replaced?

Replaced only. Pneumatic cylinders are sealed, factory-charged units - they cannot be re-pressurised in the field. We carry stroke heights from 80mm to 240mm to match the original chair height.

Do you fix the headrest and arm-pad leather too?

Yes - and usually in the same visit. We carry the full leather restoration kit alongside the pneumatic spares: flexible Italian fillers, airbrush pigment, bonded thread for re-stitching, and UV-stable topcoat sealers.

How long is a chair out of service?

For a mechanism-only service: about 60-90 minutes. For full chair restoration including hide repair: roughly 2 to 3 hours on-site. Most clients book a single chair over lunch and use it that afternoon.
