The Fjord (Patricia Urquiola, 2002) shell concentrates daily contact at the curved front edge. Aniline leather with no protective topcoat thins and splits at year eight to twelve. Most failures arrive as a split running the full arc of the leading edge. Owners sometimes apply commercial leather cream, which does nothing on raw aniline and can stain adjacent fabric. The elliptical arm of the Gentry (Patricia Urquiola, 2010) is one of its design signatures -- and the underarm fold is where aniline leather flexes repeatedly under the weight of the forearm. Thin patches develop at year six to ten and can progress to surface cracking if untreated. A topcoat on aniline leather changes the hand and is not appropriate here.

The soft organic forms of Bloomy and the modular M.a.s.s.a.s concentrate fabric stress at the tuck seams. Pilling appears at year four to eight; seams can begin to separate at the point of maximum curvature. Cushion foam compression in the Gentry modular also appears in this window, flattening the seat profile noticeably.
