Through the July-August peak Mumbai's air sits near 86% relative humidity, off a baseline around 75% - and anything sustained past 75% wakes mould on the hide while the salt-heavy sea air leaves the topcoat tacky. We treat the bloom, draw out the smell and re-seal the finish in a single visit - and the sofa stays in your living room throughout.

1,200+ hides cleaned and conserved across India
Salt-air mould lifted, the tacky film dissolved, and the grain brought back - all done where the sofa stands.
Coastal damp and salt drift off the Arabian Sea ask for more than a quick squirt of all-purpose foam. We treat each sofa the way a leather atelier would - pH-tuned solvents read against your hide, hide-matched conditioners that hold off monsoon mould, an anti-fungal pass, and pigment re-matched to the original tone, every step patch-tested on your leather first.
Italian-grade, leather-safe chemistry
1,200+ pieces cleaned across India & beyond
The conditioners and pigments in our kit are the ones specified for Natuzzi, Poltrona Frau and Fendi Casa hides - nothing you would find on a hardware aisle. Each solution is keyed to the grade of your hide and trialled on a hidden spot before any full coat. Industry body Leather Naturally points out that quality full-grain hide can survive two decades and more with proper cleaning and feeding.
Book Atelier VisitMost outfits haul the piece away to a shop for several days. Our team handles everything - inspection, a mould pass, cleaning, conditioning and sealing - right where it stands, so the sofa never leaves your home.
Average doorstep visit
No workshop pickupA coastal hide fails three ways at once: mould in the creases after the rains, a topcoat left tacky by sea air, and Arabian-Sea salt on seafront pieces - all settled in one 3-4 hour doorstep visit.
Malabar Hill and Bandra aniline drinks in whatever it meets, so we patch-test first. Past 75% humidity is all mould needs in the folds, so our pH 4.5-5.5 dry-extract method lifts moisture and spores before any wet pass - the hide comes back in colour, not just wiped.

A Mumbai hide never really dries out. The sea air holds humidity above the 75% mould line right through the monsoon, blooming spores in the creases and keeping the soft topcoat tacky enough to pick up hand oil and grime in days. On top of that, hygroscopic salt off the Arabian Sea settles on the finish, corrodes it and pulls the fat-liquor out of the leather. Italian imports from Natuzzi and Poltrona Frau - the kind you find in Malabar Hill, Bandra West and Worli drawing rooms - wear uncoated aniline that has to be patch-tested before any solution opens. Where others take the sofa away for days, we do the whole job in your living room in 3-4 hours.

One sofa at a time, the doorstep visits
added up to a craft. Today we clean and conserve leather for homes right across India.
"By the end of the rains our brown semi-aniline three-seater had green-grey mould running the length of every crease and a damp smell that would not lift. They killed the spores first, deep cleaned, then deodorised, and patch-tested before touching the hide. The whole thing happened in our flat in one afternoon."
"Our tan aniline sofa had turned oddly sticky and the armrests had gone dark with hand oil - I was sure it was finished. They explained the sea humidity was keeping the topcoat tacky, dissolved the film and re-sealed it. It feels dry and clean under the hand again for the first time in years."
"Ours is a seafront flat off Juhu and the leather carried a dull, salty film no ordinary wipe would touch. They rinsed and neutralised the salt load, then laid on a protective topcoat. The sheen came back, and they were straight with us that it would want a re-clean before the next monsoon."
Trained leather hands, not general upholstery crews. Each one reads your hide, patch-tests, clears the salt-air mould and conditions by hand - and it is the same team that turns up at every doorstep visit.
Four stages we settled on for hides that live in sea air - keyed to monsoon mould, a topcoat the damp keeps tacky, and the salt drift off the Arabian Sea. Open a card to read how that stage plays out.
Flats in Malabar Hill and Cuffe Parade are full of Italian aniline - bare, uncoated hide that pulls any solution straight into the grain. We pin down the grade and map where the mould and the sea-salt have settled before a single product comes out of the case.
Inspection & Leather ID
Drawing rooms in Malabar Hill, Worli and Cuffe Parade tend to hold Italian aniline - fully natural, uncoated hide that takes cleaning agents straight into the grain with nothing to slow them. We fix the hide type and chart the mould in the creases and any salt load off the sea before anything opens.
Through the monsoon the sea air keeps humidity sustained above 75%, and that is all mould needs to wake on the hide's tannins and fats within days. We dry-extract the loose spores first - run wet solution over dry grit and spores and you only smear it down into the grain.
Mould & Spore Treatment
Mould activates once relative humidity holds above 75% against the hide's tannins and fats. From June to October the sea air keeps the city in that band, so seat folds and the underside stay damp for weeks together. We dry-lift the loose spores with a soft brush and low-suction vacuum, then run an anti-fungal pass before any wet work - because wet solution dragged over dry spores only beds them deeper into the grain.
The salt aerosol holds moisture on the soft PU topcoat year-round, so it stays tacky and grabs hand oil and grime within days. A cleaner tuned to leather's own 4.5-5.5 pH dissolves that film without touching the finish sitting under it.
De-Tack & pH Deep Clean
Sea-salt aerosol keeps a skin of moisture on the soft PU topcoat all year, so it stays plasticised and tacky and pulls in hand oil and grime fast. A cleaner matched to leather's natural 4.5-5.5 pH dissolves the sticky layer, the settled salts and the oil darkening together, leaving the topcoat and sheen untouched.
A hide-matched conditioner puts back the fat-liquor the salt has leached out, then a breathable topcoat seals against the damp and slows the next mould bloom. Sofa back in use inside 3-4 hours.
Condition & Protect
Repeated damp-then-dry cycles, plus salt that leaches out the fat-liquor - the natural oils that keep leather supple - leave the grain tired and brittle. A hide-matched conditioner puts those oils back. A breathable, damp-resistant topcoat then seals the surface to slow the next mould bloom and the uptake of fresh sea-salt. Sofa ready within 3-4 hours.
Three failure modes a coastal hide runs into that a dry-climate sofa never sees. One: monsoon mould. Across the June-to-October monsoon the sea air holds relative humidity sustained above the 75% line - the point where spores wake on the hide's tannins and fats - and through July and August it pushes to around 86%. Seat folds and undersides stay wet for weeks, and green-grey mould surfaces in the creases before the rains are out. Two: the tacky topcoat. Hygroscopic sea-salt aerosol parks moisture on the soft PU finish year-round, so it stays plasticised and pulls in hand oil and grime faster than anything inland; armrests and headrests visibly darken inside a few months. Three: the salt itself. Seafront flats in Worli, Malabar Hill and Cuffe Parade take a constant fine-salt drift off the Arabian Sea - it settles on the finish, draws down more moisture, strips the topcoat and leaches out the fat-liquor that keeps the hide supple. We work out which combination is in front of us at the inspection, before any product opens.
One per-seat starting figure, no coastal surcharge padded on top. What monsoon mould, a salt-tacky topcoat or seafront salt-load actually costs to reverse is settled at a free at-home diagnosis, and moves only with seat count, hide grade and how far the sea air has taken the leather.

That is a starting per-seat figure; the final one tracks seat count, hide grade and condition, and is locked in at the free home diagnosis. The full breakdown sits in our 2026 cost guide.

Leather sofa cleaning in Mumbai is a doorstep job from ₹2,500 a seat, finished in one 3-4 hour visit. Year-round Arabian-Sea salt air holds humidity above the 75% mould line, leaches the hide's fat-liquor and turns the topcoat tacky. We dry-extract spores before any wet pass, then clean to leather's own 4.5-5.5 pH. We cover Malabar Hill, Bandra West, Juhu, Worli and Cuffe Parade.
