LC2 and LC3 cushion leather topcoat cracking
The thick pigmented hides on the Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand grand confort cushions (1928) develop surface crazing at the seat-to-back fold line between year eight and fifteen. The chrome frame holds seat pads under constant compression at that joint. The hide beneath is structurally sound - only the topcoat crazes. Owners often attempt conditioning, which does nothing on pigmented leather and can seal the craze open. See our guide on cracking vs creasing for diagnosis. Also compare: cracking repair protocol.
