The Protocol

Leather polishing, four stages

Polishing is not a wipe-down. It is four stages on one sofa, performed on-site - inspection first, price second, work third. Nothing touches the hide before you agree the package. Between visits, our luxury leather care guide and routine leather sofa cleaning keep the finish lasting longer.

01

Strip & Clean

Old wax, body oils and pollution film lifted with a pH-balanced, leather-safe solvent. The grain opens, ready to be fed. Polishing over dirty leather only seals the contamination in.

02

Feed & Condition

Fat-liquor replenishes lost lipids deep into the dermis - the biggest cause of cracks and dullness in India's AC-dry, sub-30% winter air. Soak, then wipe back so pores breathe.

03

Micro-Pigment Touch-Up

Worn corners, rub-spots and colour drift pigmented to match the original tone. Aniline-respecting on full-grain hides - no whitening, no flat painted look.

04

Topcoat Seal

Matte, satin or soft gloss sealed under a UV + abrasion binder, hand-finished with a low-noise buffer. Locks the colour, repels dust. Light use in 2-3 hours.

Why Us

A polish is the difference between a sofa that is clean and a sofa that looks loved. We finish for the second one - on-site, in one afternoon.

Polishing FAQs

01How much does leather sofa polishing cost in India?+
Polishing starts from Rs 3,500 per seat. A standard 3-seater costs Rs 9,000-Rs 12,000, including the pH-balanced conditioner, micro-pigment touch-up and UV-protective topcoat seal. Rates hold across every city we cover - the four-stage protocol is identical whether the hide sits in a dry-AC winter or a coastal-damp flat - and the figure is confirmed on-site at the free home diagnosis before any work begins.
02How long does leather sofa polishing take?+
A 3-seater runs 2-3 hours start to finish, all four stages worked in your living room. The hide is ready for light use roughly an hour after the topcoat goes on, and a large sectional may stretch to 4 hours once the drying window is added.
03What is the difference between polishing and recolouring?+
Polishing feeds, reseals and buffs a hide that has gone dull or dry but still holds its colour. Leather recolouring rebuilds pigment where the tone has faded, scuffed or drifted off. Polishing is the lighter, lower-cost service and is enough for any hide that is structurally sound - the diagnosis tells us which one your sofa actually needs.
04Can polishing fix cracked leather?+
A polish on its own will not close a structural crack. Deep cracks have to be filled with a flexible compound and re-pigmented first, with conditioning and the topcoat seal applied as the finishing pass - our guide on cracking leather sets out what is and is not recoverable. Surface dryness and fine hairline cracks, though, soften and settle nicely under the conditioning stage of a standard visit.
05Do you polish Natuzzi, Poltrona Frau and B&B Italia sofas?+
Yes. Tyson, our Lead Artisan with 12+ years on the bench, has finished every major Italian house - Natuzzi, Poltrona Frau, B&B Italia, Maxalto and Fendi Casa among them. Their aniline and semi-aniline hides get a gentler, finish-specific chemistry, conditioned and refreshed rather than flooded with pigment that would flatten the natural grain.
Understanding the Service

A controlled leather refinish, not cream rub

Leather polishing is one of the most misunderstood services in the country. Most owners picture a quick coat of shoe-style cream rubbed over the seats. Real polishing is a controlled refinish that returns moisture, even tone and a protective surface to a hide that has dried out, dulled or worn thin - without sealing in the years of body oil and dust already on it.

Every visit opens with a reading of the hide, not a tube of product. The artisan works out the finish type, how deep the wear runs, where the tone has drifted and whether the dryness sits on the surface or has reached the fibre - and only then is a package put to you. Stage one lifts the accumulated wax, hand-cream residue and pollution film with a leather-safe solvent held near the hide's own pH of 4.5 to 5.5, because a coat laid over a soiled sofa simply traps the grime beneath it. Stage two drives fat-liquor - the lipid matrix laced between the fibres - back into the dermis, replacing what the country's seesaw from saturated monsoon air to sealed sub-30% winter cooling keeps pulling out. Stage three layers micro-pigment only where the colour has thinned, at armrests, seat fronts and headrests, matched to the original tone rather than brushed flat across a panel. Stage four binds it all under a UV and abrasion topcoat, hand-buffed to the sheen you pick - matte, satin or a soft gloss. The hide takes light use within a couple of hours, and not one stage leaves the living room.

Which hide the protocol suits is where candour outweighs the sales pitch. Pigmented leather - the upholstery finish in most Indian homes - responds beautifully; its surface coat is engineered to be cleaned, fed and resealed, so a tired pigmented set comes back close to how it left the showroom. Aniline and semi-aniline hides, the soft open-pore leathers on premium Italian frames, are read with a lighter hand: conditioned and revived, never loaded with heavy pigment that would smother the natural grain and the hand-feel people pay for. Bonded and PU "leather" is the one line we will not promise across - these are fabric-backed coatings rather than real hide, and once the skin starts to peel or flake there is no fibre beneath to feed or rebuild. We say as much on the first visit instead of selling a finish that cannot last. Telling those apart is half the craft, which is why a quote begins with naming your finish, not quoting a number.

That honesty is the whole point of bringing the bench to your door. Over 1,200 hides have passed through this protocol nationwide, from family three-seaters to designer sectionals, and now and then the right call is that a plain leather sofa cleaning is all the hide wants, or that structural damage needs recolouring and colour restoration before any finishing work earns its place. You see the reading, you see the quote, and nothing touches the leather until you have agreed to it. To hold the finish yourself between visits, our luxury leather care guide sets out the routine that keeps a freshly sealed sofa looking its best for longer.
